SUMMARY:The Making of Mosaics: an introduction
DESCRIPTION:Artist Angela Maniak will demonstrate how to start creating 
 mosaic art in its many forms.  She will demonstrate using stained-glass\, 
 vitreous glass\, and ceramic.\n\nAbout Angela and her work\n\nI am a 
 pandemic-born\, self-taught\, half-blind mosaic artist.\n\nMy inspiration 
 comes from the Maine outdoors:  colors\, textures\, flora\, and 
 fauna.\n\nEach piece is one-of-a-kind.  The mosaic process is multi-step 
 and labor-intensive.  First\, I sketch the design\, transfer this to an 
 appropriate substrate\, and select a color palette.  Next\, I hand-cut and 
 glue each piece of glass individually\, arranging pieces to create color 
 combinations and\, most importantly\, to mosaic art\, andamento—the flow 
 represented by the placement of the tesserae and the grout lines.  
 Finally\, I grout and seal the piece. \n\nThe frames on my wall art are 
 truly special.  Most of the wood comes from trees on my own property\, 
 harvested due to death or disease.  My husband\, Tom\, mills\, cuts\, and 
 finishes the wood\, making custom frames for my pieces.  He also makes my 
 wooden trays\, coasters\, and boxes for inlaid mosaics.\n\nAngela's mosaics
