Tech Workshop: Data Brokers 101

Tech Workshop: Data Brokers 101 In-Person / Online

Data brokers are corporations that make their money from buying and selling our personal data. Who are these companies, and what we can do to avoid being caught in their surveillance? Hannah Cyrus, Digital Media Librarian at the Bangor Public Library, will offer a one-hour workshop covering the basics of what data brokers are, why they are a threat to privacy, how you can opt out as much as possible, and related topics such as location tracking and facial surveillance.

This class will be held in-person and via Zoom from 2:00-3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 21 at the Bangor Public Library. The class is free, but space is limited, so registration is required whether attending in-person or online. To register, use our online form below, or call Hannah at 922-6055.

The library offers regular technology workshops on different subjects, free of charge. Participants are encouraged to bring their own device if they have one they want to learn on, or use one of the library’s computers if not.

For more information, contact Hannah at 922-6055 or hannah.cyrus@bangorpubliclibrary.org.
