Expressive Abstract Painting: Processing Emotion Through Art

Expressive Abstract Painting: Processing Emotion Through Art In-Person

Lori Bryant will lead this outdoor art experience, inviting you to explore emotions through abstract painting, mark-making, and unconventional tools. No need to be an expert—this class is about releasing, processing, and expressing rather than creating something “pretty.”

Let loose, get messy, and let the colors tell your story. Wear old clothes, bring an open mind, and get ready for an experience where creativity meets healing. And with fun music setting the mood, expect an energizing session, freeing, and uniquely yours.

This event will be held inside if the weather is rainy.

About Lori

In 2020, while utilizing art in family therapy, I was shocked when I met my first alter while drawing. This led to a diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder. This disorder used to be known as Multiple Personality Disorder or MPD, but the name has been changed to Dissociative Identity Disorder or DID. It was changed because it is not a personality disorder but more of an identity one. Different identities in one body separated by amnesia walls.

As I continue to paint and heal, I have discovered a mission of promoting awareness and reducing the stigma of Dissociative Identity Disorder through art and helping others with mental illness. I realized that trauma broke me into pieces, and art is putting me back together.

In November of 2022, two of my paintings were chosen in a Veterans’ art exhibit in Augusta, and I was awarded a beautiful quilt of Valor. Again in 2023, my art was chosen for another Veterans art exhibit, and the Portland Press wrote an article about my art experiences.

I volunteer my time Friday evenings, 6-8 pm, teaching healing art to Veterans at the Maine Veterans Project in Bangor.
