Prose & Cons Book Group: How to Read a Book by Monica Wood In-Person

Join us the fourth Wednesday of the month from 6-7pm for Prose & Cons, a book discussion group highlighting a diverse array of titles and genres, run by a different library staff member each month. No registration is needed, and attendees are welcome to pick and choose any meetings that interest them.

On Wednesday, September 25, Candis Joyce, Adult Programs and Exhibits Coordinator will lead a discussion on How to Read a Book by Monica Wood.

According to the publisher, "From the award-winning author of The One-in-a-Million Boy comes a heartfelt, uplifting novel about a chance encounter at a bookstore, exploring redemption, unlikely friendships, and the life-changing power of sharing stories. How to Read a Book is an unsparingly honest and profoundly hopeful story about letting go of guilt, seizing second chances, and the power of books to change our lives. With the heart, wit, grace, and depth of understanding that has characterized her work, Monica Wood illuminates the decisions that define a life and the kindnesses that make life worth living."

For questions or more information, contact the Reference Desk at (207) 922-6071.

Monica will be at the Bangor Public Library on Thursday, October 3 at 6:30.  Copies of her book will be available for purchase.  Please click here for more information

Reviews:

'The perfect pick to really light a fire under my book club, and yours....A charming, openhearted novel, deceptively easy to read but layered with sharp observations, hard truths and rich ideas....Nudges the conscience as much as it pulls at the heartstrings....This novel is a reminder that goodness, and books, can still win in this world.' — New York Times Book Review

'An utter gem; funny, sweet, and moving.' — People

'I laughed and wept my way straight through How to Read a Book. What a beautiful, big-hearted treasure of a novel!'
— Lily King, New York Times bestselling author of Euphoria and Writers
