About this event

Come meet Saskia Reinolt of the Maine High Peaks Creative Council.  Saskia will talk about the history of the Maine Barn Quilt Trail and how it came to be. For more information, click here.

The Maine High Peaks Barn Quilt Trail is a community-made public art trail that enhances the Maine High Peaks Arts and Heritage Loop, celebrates rural traditions, encourages tourists to move through a rural landscape, and links into the national American Barn Quilt Trail. This collaborative community project was organized by the High Peaks Creative Council with the goal of furthering the visibility and reputation of the Maine High Peaks Region as an arts, cultural, and recreational destination.

What is a Barn Quilt?

Each barn quilt is a hand-painted mural. Often the geometric quilt design is carefully selected to reflect a location's heritage, culture, and sense of place. Most of the murals are displayed on historic barns and buildings. This project connects and celebrates two parts of American culture, agricultural barns, and quilting.

About Saskia

Saskia is a colorist, multimedia artist, and teacher who loves to paint in oils and acrylics. She designs and prints original silkscreens and dabbles in stained glass arts. Her artistic endeavors are often influenced by geometry found in nature, known as the Golden ratio. Her love of color schemes is inspired by the natural environment through reflections of sunsets, sunrises, plants, and landscapes. She lives in Phillips, Maine with her husband and two children.

This event is sponsored by Bangor Beautiful and the High Peaks Creative Council.
